Andrew Austin – Two More Time

Monday, July 5th, 2010

So Andrew wrote a song that Ritz Crackers really liked and so they put it on their cute commercial. Or that’s the short version of the story anyway. The commercial is about an enterprising little girl who bribes a line up of kids with buttery crackers to get to the front where her crush is waiting. However, when she finally gets to sit with the object of her affection, she has run out of crackers to share with him! What happens next? You’ll have to watch the spot to find out:

So the response to the commercial has been phenomenal. People are going crazy for this song, searching for it on the internet and they are really into it. Makes sense cause it is a really great song. Andrew is releasing it on his next CD so it’s not ready yet… but people want to hear it! So I made a recording of it to tide people over. The real recording of it is going to be way better than this one of course. Remember that.

Also, we shot a video for it and that was really fun! We’re releasing it with the song. The people I have shown think that it is “cute” and “funny,” and even though they are all my friends, I think that is a good sign! Can’t wait to show people and see what strangers think. I hope it’s done soon and I hope people are still excited about the song and to see it by that time!

What a niiiiiiiiiiight

So I took a video of the Tallest Man on Earth show I went to on Saturday. I posted it on YouTube and then I saw other videos from the same show that are closer and better. But whatever, it’s not a competition.

I spent the rest of the weekend celebrating Roger and Andrea’s bday at Will’s chalet. I made a new entry for it on foursquare and now I’m the mayor. It was totally good times. So many good people around in a beautiful place outside the city. Quite a little departure in debauchery for me, and I didn’t even go as hard as some of the friends there. I’m so excited for the summer.

Oh, I also have short hair now.

Going to a play

Wednesday, April 7th, 2010

Here is a video that I took a while ago after a fun weekend in London, but never posted on this here website. I like this new song by Andrew, but the harmony singing by the Fuss during the bridge leaves a little to be desired. It’s ok for me to say that, they already know. Oh the correct title is “I’m on a Lake.” My bad, No, sarah is not cool.

I’m excited about seeing a play tonight with my dear Lori and Owen Pallett tomorrow with my new friend Jason but part of me just wants to chill out and play Plants vs. Zombies on my iPhone all night. Nay, for the rest of my life.

Waking up to good songs

Monday, April 5th, 2010

I woke up to this song today on the CBC. It was really wonderful. I love when I hear an amazing song for the first time when I’m still half-sleeping. The recording was from a live performance at Glen Gould Studios, which will be repeated this Saturday. I wish I could go, but I have a wedding reception. Anyway, this song, Royal Wood “The Island,” made my day today.

Few items of business

Friday, February 5th, 2010

How am I supposed to post blogs all the time?? Full time jobs are awesome in many respects, don’t get me wrong, but they hinder my ability to write about myself and things that I think on the internet for no one to see.

So for now while I have a few moments, I will let you know the happy-hap.

Here is some footage of Andrew Austin and the Fuss from the concert I booked at the Horseshoe.

That’s right, I booked a concert. They packed the placeĀ  and the guys were awesome. I was so thrilled and appreciative of a lot of my friends for coming out. This of course signals my show booking career retirement. Too stressful and businessy!! I will stick to more wimpy things to help out musicians like talking to writers about music and making pretty video interpretations of songs.

Also I met the lovely and talented Jason Chu when he came out and reviewed the show. Notice he said that the band brought their “A-game,” which I only understood the punniness of after the fact. Brilliant! Read it here: http://www.nxew.ca/2010/01/review-andrew-austin-and-fuss-at.html

Gots my hairs cutted and as is my vain tradition I will post a picture. People who have seen have told me they like, so I’m not trying to fish for compliments here, please don’t it makes me uncomfortable I’m serious, but I don’t really like to be honest. My hair never sits right. But whatever! Only hair. It’s way shorter now!

I was sick last week but feeling better now and back in action for a number of deadlines and exciting things happening at work. Work is great when you like it, eh? I wish it didn’t take up so much of my time, but it’s my own fault for not having enough energy after work to keep going. Still working on that. I’m also really strongly considering picking up a Canon T1i that all the kids are talking about. It’s a real commitment though and I feel like if I spend all that money on such an extravagant thing I better make sure I have the time and the will to actually make the most of it. Maybe for my birthday in May I can work my lifestyle around that. That seems like a good goal.

Andrew Austin – So Easy live w/ guitar

Thursday, December 24th, 2009

I know the video quality isn’t that good, but I just love this song and wanted to post it. On the recorded version he’s accompanied by piano, in this one it’s guitar.

This was December 10, 2009 at the Gladstone Hotel in Toronto at an Indie Love Radio showcase Thursday Night Confidential hosted by DJs Paddy Jane and Jay Nadler.

Living and Saying

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009

No more big talking for me. Just you wait til 2010.

In the meantime, a list of five interesting things I’ve seen in the past week to ring in the holidays. I’m going to try to hit on as many of my categories as possible in this one:

  1. Thursday morning “Things I wish I could pull off”: Woman in her early-forties tending to her 8 Tamagotchis while she waited for the bus.
  2. Friday night x 2 “Religion and then birthdays”: Went to the Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit and saw ancient pieces of parchment on a triple date (geeky) and then my friends took over the Central for a most fun Birthday Three-Way – Cutebarf, Lady Parts, and one half of the Slow Clap performed.
  3. Monday night “Local celebrity sighting”: Nikki Payne and this actor who is in a million commercials chatting together on my subway car from Keele to Spadina.
  4. Tuesday evening “Wacky bike”: This guy in covered recumbent bike on Queen East near Church. I really wish I took a picture cause I can’t find anything like it on google. It was literally a stainless steal pod low to the ground with a little head and helmet sticking out the top – awesome.
  5. Tuesday night “Just a concert”: Arkells at the Horseshoe – twas a great and free show. Looking forward to many shows there in January too. Horseshoe always kills it.

And sticking with my arts and craft mandate, I just saw this internet-wise (which doesn’t count for my list) which I think is awesome:

Knitted caps and beards

Andrew Austin

My favourite Renata Kaveh took these gorgeous photos of my other favourite Andrew Austin at the Berkeley Church. We’ve got lots of really great ones, but they’re not being released all at once. Soon though!! Exciting! Amazing job by art director and yet another favourite, Jen Thomas. Andrew is rolling out a bunch of artsy-fun stuff under the umbrella of a new collective called “Glowpoke”… It’s a neat little bow to wrap up all the coolness that’s going on lately, like… the video we made and we’re releasing at the Drake Underground on December 2!! I know, I know, that was a lot of information at once and I am breaking a lot of PR tenets, but try to stay with me. We’ve been so busy doing all this fun stuff that I didn’t even have time to mention it here yet!!

COME TO THE SHOW!!

Who: Andrew Austin and the Fuss with special guests Ron Hawkins (Lowest of the Low), Everlea Acoustic and DJs Slow Clap
What: No Flowers single release and video world premiere
When: Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009, 8pm
Where: The Drake Underground, 1150 Queen Street West, Toronto

Teaser for “No Flowers”:

P.S. What do you think of the name “Glowpoke”??

How ’bout this autumn?
