Clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose

Friday, August 20th, 2010

If you keep your head down, work hard, cultivate your passions and talents and most importantly, be good to people, you will win at life. Always have good intentions mixed with a healthy dose of motivation and I know you will be awesome. Sorry to get cliche on you guys, but I’m having the most wonderful August and I just want to gush right now on my personal blog. I don’t think that’s too much to ask.

Toronto cyclists go out of their way to show love to good drivers

Monday, October 19th, 2009

This is an awesome campaign idea to address the weird but totally present animosity between cyclists and drivers. I like the idea of cyclists putting in the effort, because we’re nice people. It strikes me as a little bit suck-uppy for things we should expect drivers to do anyway, but you know what? We can drop our pride for the good of everyone and raise awareness in a way that doesn’t make people defensive. PR-wise it’s pretty frickin brilliant, you think?

When did I become such a wimp?

Thursday, August 13th, 2009

I used to be so tough! People would say, “Watch out for Sarah, sure she’s small, but you don’t want to mess with her! You’ll regret it!” And it’s true. I was ruthless if you crossed me! I don’t know what happened, but I gotta get that back pronto. That has become priority one, I think. It’s really important. Don’t step on me, OK?! From now on!

April is Autism Awareness Month

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

My cousin sent me a really fascinating story over the weekend that I haven’t been able to post until now:

There is an austic girl named Carly who has a very interesting and inspirational story. She is non-verbal but after years of intervention – she began to type and communicate via her computer. She has a blog  here:

Carly’s Voice

You can even follow her on twitter:

The coolest thing is that she just decided last week that she wanted to be on Larry King Live – so she started an online petition and Larry got word and had her on his show that very thursday via skype with Jenny Mccarthy!

Here is footage from CNN:

My cousin runs an amazing site called Autism Zeitgeist. It’s a website for families and parents in Ontario that provides information on some of the complexities within an IBI program and the standards that apply to the ministry funded ABA program. Check out the site to find out all about it.

Safety in Numbers

Map of traffic accidents involving cyclists from the Star yesterday:

Here’s an informative article from Torontoist about bike accidents here in the city:

[Bicycling safety] requires respect (from both cyclists and motorists), attention (no more drifting into the bike lane while texting), and compromise (wait just two seconds and you can make that turn safely). If we all see other drivers and cyclists as people rather than obstacles in our way as we rush from hither to thither, we’ll all be happier—and safer.
