For immediate release:

The Find Christina Calayca Group will be hosting a star-studded fundraising gala on April 4, 2008. Organizers were pleasantly surprised and touched by tremendous sales with 600 tickets sold.  All the funds raised go to the search for Christina, currently planned to commence in the spring.

Hosted by CityNews anchor, Francis D’Souza, the event is a dinner, dance and show. It brags performances by Canadian Idol finalists, Rising Star Champions, and many more exciting entertainers. This lively night also includes a full course dinner, dance and a raffle and silent auction of a variety of special items generously donated.

The Christina Calayca Group is pleased to welcome guest speaker David Francis, of the Jon Francis Foundation in Minnesota. David will speak about the organization he started in motivation to search for his son Jon after he went missing while mountain climbing.

Christina Calayca went missing when she was camping with her friends in Rainbow Falls Provincial Park on August 6, 2007. She was only 20 years old. The Christina Calayca Group, composed of her family and loved ones, has been raising awareness and funds for Christina after the initial police search failed to find her.

The terrain at Rainbow Falls Provincial Park is rough and hazardous. There is dense bush, dangerous cliffs, and high, steep terrain. 100% of funds raised will go toward the costs associated with bringing in personnel specifically trained to conduct these searches, and equipment or specialized resources, such as trained dogs. Experienced search co-ordinators expect an initial 10-day search will cost $30,000 to $35,000. Remaining funds go toward a scholarship in Christina’s name so that she can continue to inspire others.

Organizers are hoping that this event will raise $12,000 in support of the search.  This will bring their total fundraising efforts to approximately $30,000, to date. The Christina Calayca Group is encouraged and moved by the outpouring of support from the public and is endlessly grateful for the devotion to find Christina.

The Lollipop Generation

I’m really pumped to get to go to this because of my volunteering at the Images Festival this year. I received my very own pass today. It’s going to be an awesome 11 days.
