Meet my bike

My bike

Bike, meet the internet. Internet, my bike. It’s a beautiful red 70s vintage fold-up… My autre bike is also amazing but very different. I ride to work and sometimes like to go slow. With my other bike I can never wear skirts or flimsy shoes and it’s just so fast (single speed on a quite high gear ratio) and with an aggressive stance so I thought I would like something a bit more laid back and slow so I can just sit and pedal and not be so intense about the journey sometimes. My new bike is really heavy and it’s got huge fenders and thick tires for riding in all sorts of weather conditions. I still need a super speedy, light, hot bike, don’t get me wrong, but my new one serves other important purposes as well. So please give a warm welcome to my new bike.

Are you ready?

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

Now that I have a job that I am getting used to, enjoy and I’m doing it well, I am gaining a little bit of confidence about making my posts here a bit more irreverent.

Some of the big projects I had on the go have ended and now I feel like I can concentrate on myself and take time for cultivating my own stuff again. I haven’t had less than 3 things going on at once for a long time now. Get ready for more introspection as well as my blog to feature things that I’m actually making and doing for myself, which is fun for me. Fun for you too maybe, but definitely fun for me. I hope that posting, showing, living and doing through this medium will encourage the same.

BFF going strong

Friday, June 20th, 2008

Check out these pictures on flickr of some BFF BFFs at Joy Ride showing now at the Studio Gallery by local photographer Julian Katz. I can’t emphasize enough that Joy ride is a really special and wonderful collection. Go check it out. Studio is just on the North side of College and and a bit West of Spadina.

The fun continues tonight with screenings at the famous Royal in Little Italy at 7 pm and 9 pm. The program is just awesome. No need to be intimidated if you’re not a hardcore biker or anything. I’m not either, but the movies are just very fun and diverse. There are also screenings all day tomorrow at 3 pm, 5 pm, 7 pm, and 9 pm so I hope to see you there. I just think about all the cool people in Toronto who haven’t caught on to this amazing stuff yet and I feel sad that they don’t know what they are missing. We are at the forefront of one of the largest cultural movements in the world. C’mon guys, get into it already.

The Bicycles, Syntonics, play The Bicycle Film Festival Opening Bikes Rock!

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

I was glancing over my recent blog entries and realized the casual observer might have thought I am REALLY into bikes… Which is a little true. But not really. I like bikes a lot, but not more than other really great things. I am simply excited that the bicycle film festival is in town and I think that you would all have fun if you went to see it. That’s all. I am not a “fan” and haven’t been one for a long time. Anyway, I think you should come to Bikes Rock tonight. There will be bike valet parking, beer, attractive cyclists, live bands, and a screening of a 70s documentary about a family that built a bicycle airplane with a live soundtrack. SO VERY COOL.

Here’s your blurb fresh from facebook:

Plus other great stuff like beer!

Bicycle Film Festival TOMORROW

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

It’s finally here! I’m so excited! It’s like Christmas eve! Check out the Bicycle Film Festival website and buy tickets before they sell out!

Here is coverage on She Does the City (awesome!)…

As if unspeakably amazing music (Wednesday), art (Thursday) and bike movies (Friday, Saturday) weren’t reason enough to come out, there are some special extras to look forward to as well! I know! Try not to get overwhelmed!! Here is a top 5 list…

  1. hotties on bikes – doesn’t everyone just look better riding a bike? Check out the talent!
  2. free bicycle valet -  feel classy with someone else parking your bike for you
  3. showing off – do you have a stylish vintage cruiser? a hot souped up speed bike? This is the crowd to bring it out to
  4. bike people – they just happen to be good people
  5. cracking a beer in the theatre – that’s just self-explanatory

Go Straight Fast*

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

*title unabashedly stolen from this blog which talks about the Devil Strip Rollers sprints at a secret chocolatey location last night.

It was really fun and good-energied. Bike people are the best people, you know? You probably wish you were there. Maybe next week.

I am going to post pictures soon, but have been so swamped that I haven’t… YET.

BFF Toronto Chrome Bag Prize!

In the meantime enjoy this again, unabashed sleazy promo for the Bicycle Film Festival. Catch it in Toronto June 18-21. You will love it! We sponsored an awesome prize for the sprints winner which included an awesome bag (see above), no less than 4 beers and a pass to the BFF, and more! There’s more lovin where that came from. And when I say “lovin”, I mean “swag”… I just hate the word swag.
